Hugo, the abandoned puppy that Oliver adopts, likes riding inside his master’s zippered jacket. The puppy tries vainly to warn Oliver of disaster before it’s too late. Oliver faces death-defying adventures while solving a murder mystery. He’s also fighting the Devil in his own heart, for he struggles with emotions of vengeance versus love. He begins searching for Patsy, his former sweetheart. She had dumped him for his brother Arlo, who died after she hooked him on drugs. Oliver can’t decide whether he still loves her or hates the wicked witch. Meanwhile, Oliver Temple finds work as a church organist. Brother John and sidekick Oliver answer calls to “help churches in trouble.” In southern Arizona, the troubles center around two battling biddies who argue over everything from who will bring fresh flowers for the church to which one, if either, has committed murder. While Oliver despairs of ever finding Patsy, he becomes embroiled in solving crimes, and falls in love all over again. This time he imagines that Vanna Solano and his mom will get along just fine. Both little ladies pray that Oliver will come to Christ.
