Not So Simple Life

Sixteen-year-old Maya Stark seems to have it all-fame, fortune, a Beverly Hills lifestyle, and a rock star dad. But on the inside, Maya is miserable. Her parents are divorced, her dad is away on tour, and being biracial, she struggles with her identity. Then, to make matters worse, her mother is arrested on cocaine charges and is facing jail time.

With nowhere to live, Maya’s already shaky world is turned upside down when she is sent to spend the summer with her cousin Kim and Uncle Allen. Because of her background her attitude, she has a hard time fitting in, and many write her off as a snob. Truth be told, she’s insecure, confused, and embarrassed by her mother’s problems. Her cousin Kim tries to help her, but Maya is jaded and antagonistic, and looks down on Kim because she’s a Christian.

Teen fans of Melody Carlson’s Diary of a Teenage Girl series will be delighted with this first installment in the Maya stories. Follow Maya’s journey as she discovers that the key to the real “simple life” lies in giving her heart to God.
